It’s official: Dennis Erickson fired by ASU

After weeks of speculation and a four-game losing streak
to
end the regular season, ASU head football coach Dennis
Erickson has been relieved of his duties.
“We are grateful for the service Dennis and his staff
provided for the past five years,” said ASU Vice President
for Athletics Lisa Love. “Even during the most difficult
times, he represented ASU with dignity. As he pursued
success at the highest level within the Pac-12 conference,
he improved the overall competitive health of the Sun
Devils
by attracting tremendous players to the university. With
the confidence earned by his remarkable career, he never
doubted the capability of ASU to compete for the Rose
Bowl.”
Erickson was hired in 2007, and led the Sun Devils to a
10-3
mark and a co-Pac-10 Championship. But since that season,
Arizona State has gone just 21-27, including their
disappointing 6-6 mark this season.
The Sun Devils are bowl-eligible for the first time since
Erickson’s first season. Reports state that Erickson will
coach the Sun Devils in their bowl game, regardless of
where
they go.
