Sun Devils, Wildcats will finish future seasons

Dec 1, 2011, 5:01 PM | Updated: 5:35 pm

Arizona State and Arizona have a history of ending their
respective regular seasons by playing each other, though
that hasn’t always been the case in recent years.

However, as part of his “Wildcat Wednesday” email sent out
in November 30th, Arizona Athletic Director Greg Byrne
said
the game will go back to being the finale.

“I think you should know that future schedules will keep
ASU as our regular-season finale; this year was jumbled
some because of the league expansion,” Byrne wrote.

There have only been five seasons since 1960 where the
teams did not play each other in the final week of the
regular season, and it’s nice to see the tradition of the
game being the finale return.

The “Duel in the Desert” tends to carry extra emotion,
making for a great way to end a season. Of course, both
schools would prefer to be playing in a bowl game after
their meeting, but that’s not really the point.

Arizona won a 31-27 thriller this year at Sun Devil
Stadium in Tempe.
