First they offered him a job, then they haven’t even
talked
with him.
And now they’re meeting with him Saturday?
According to a report by ASUDevils.com, Arizona State
President Michael Crow, Vice President for Athletics Lisa
Love and Chief Operating Officer Steve Patterson are
planning on going to Houston Saturday to meet with Kevin
Sumlin.
If the visit goes well, the Sun Devils are expected to
inform Sumlin that a contract starting in excess of $2
million per year is his, should he be willing to accept.
Sumlin and the 12-0 University of Houston Cougars are
taking on Southern Mississippi in the Conference-USA title
game on Saturday.
Since taking over as head coach in 2008, Sumlin has guided
the Cougars to a combined record of 35-16.
Before Houston, Sumlin spent five seasons with Oklahoma
University as wide receivers coach and eventually
offensive coordinator.
In 2007, as offensive coordinator, Sumlin’s Oklahoma
offense led the nation with 44 points a game.
Sumlin has been involved in coaching college football
since 1989, when he was a graduate assistant at Washington
State University.
