Brock Osweiler weighs in on coaching search

Arizona State QB Brock Osweiler plans on returning to
school for his senior year because there are things he’d
still like to accomplish at the collegiate level.

Osweiler threw for 3,641 yards and 24 touchdowns in his
first season as a starter, but a 6-6 season left a bad
taste in his mouth.

It also led to a coaching change, and while the Sun Devils
have not yet hired a replacement for Dennis Erickson,
Osweiler knows what kind of coach he’d like to see come
in.

“I think just a guy who brings a lot of energy on a daily
basis and is fun to play for,” he told Arizona Sports
620’s Burns and Gambo, “and is a great motivator.”

Osweiler said he got used to those attributes playing for
offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone.

“I’ve been kind of spoiled the past couple of years with
Coach Mazzone.”

Now, that doesn’t mean the QB wants his coordinator to be
elevated to the top job, because he may just like for
Mazzone to stick around in some capacity.

“I have a great relationship with him and there is no way
that I would be where I’m at today as a quarterback and as
a man without Coach Mazzone being here the past two
seasons,” he said. “I would love to finish out my career
with him.”

There has been plenty of talk centering around Mazzone’s
chances of staying with ASU under whatever coach is hired,
but if ASU hires an offensive-minded coach the new guy may
want to run a different system.
