Arizona State, June Jones negotiations didn’t break down because of buyout
Early Wednesday it seemed all but set, June
Jones would become the next head football coach at
Arizona State.
Hours later the
negotiations had stopped and it left many
wondering why.
Arizona Sports’ Paul Calvisi had said “donor backlash” and
“background questions” came into play for ASU.
Another possible reason was because June Jones has a $2
million buyout in his contract with his current school,
Southern Methodist University.
Calvisi later learned Wednesday night the buyout was
not a factor during the negotiations.
With June Jones out of the mix ASU will now move on to
other candidates to fill their vacant position.
Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro reported Wednesday that
Tennessee Defensive Coordinator Justin Wilcox could be a
possibility for ASU.
