ASU releases (another) statement on coaching search
The latest developments from Tempe in the continuing
search for a new coach don’t have anything to do with a
particular candidate.
No, the latest development is another statement released
on TheSundevils.com, and it has to do with rumors
surrounding the coaching search. Here’s
a portion:
An extraordinary number of inaccurate news
reports, usually attributed to unnamed sources, have been
published. In some cases these sources have no knowledge
of the situation and are making guesses; in others they
may be deliberate misrepresentations by people who have or
believe they have a stake in the negotiations. We caution
all Sun Devil fans to read and listen to these reports
with a healthy amount of skepticism and to rest assured
that we are pursuing a broad, thorough and highly
professional search for a new football coach.
University president Dr. Michael Crow had released a
statement on Monday which pinpointed exactly what ASU was
looking for in a head coach.
Then on Wednesday, the proverbial house caved in during a
period of time in which it was reported that SMU’s June
Jones would be the next Sun Devil head coach. A matter of
hours later, the deal had fallen through, and chief
operating officer Steve Patterson even told a Texas
television station that Jones would not be the next head
coach at ASU.
Friday’s statement was not signed by Crow, Patterson or
athletic director Lisa Love.
