ASU treating Las Vegas Bowl ‘like a BCS bowl’

Dec 22, 2011, 5:35 AM | Updated: 5:37 am

After missing out on college football’s bowl bonanza in
each of the past three seasons, ASU is excited about being
invited to the postseason party this year.

Of course, they were hoping for a January bowl invite, not
the Las Vegas Bowl, which is one of the first games
scheduled here in December.

“We had higher aspirations at the beginning of the
season,” said senior linebacker Colin Parker, one of the
team’s five captains.

Those dreams shattered with the current four-game losing
streak, all part of a winless November.

“We got lucky with this bowl, honestly,” Parker continued.
“To be able to play an opponent like Boise State, it’s
great.”

“We’re treating it like a BCS bowl,” added senior wide
receiver Aaron Pflugrad. “That was our goal at the
beginning of the year. We get a BCS opponent. We’re
excited about the match-up.”

ASU (6-6) is matched-up against 11-1 Boise State, ranked
seventh in the nation. The Broncos were passed over for a
BCS game.

“They have every right to be mad,” junior running back
Cameron Marshall stated. “They’re playing a 6-6 team and
they went 11-1, having gone to the Vegas bowl last year
(beating Utah, 26-3). I know they had their hopes set on
a higher bowl game.”
