Arizona State senior wide receiver/kick returner Rashad Ross has been named the Pac-12 special teams player of the week after a 100-yard kick returned sparked a 51-17 victory over lowly Colorado.
Ross’s kick return could not have come at a better time for the Sun Devils.
Leading the Buffaloes just 20-17, Ross was back to receive the opening kickoff of the second half.
The senior caught the ball at the goal line, and then in an instant was running down the sideline without anyone left to beat.
The touchdown put the Devils up 27-17 and set the tone for a dominating second half by Arizona State.
With just three kick returns this season for Ross, most of his damage has been done through the passing game. He has 16 receptions for 260 yards and a single touchdown through the air.
Ross could be key in Arizona State’s Thursday night showdown against the second-ranked Oregon Ducks, who rank just 70th in passing defense.
