Notes from the Nest: Arizona Cardinals practice – Dec. 13

Dec 13, 2013, 10:35 PM | Updated: 10:35 pm

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Arizona Cardinals held practice Friday, just a couple days before taking on the Titans.

Of Note

– QB Carson Palmer was “limited” and is “questionable” for Sunday, but when asked about it, coach Bruce Arians said it is “very similar” to how questionable the passer was heading into last week’s game against the Rams. And for what it’s worth, Palmer was pretty good in that one.

– TE Rob Housler did not practice for the third consecutive day, and is listed as “doubtful.” Arians said it will be a game-time decision, but that if the third-year pro is out, the offense won’t change much.

– Defensive tackle Dan Williams, who played his college ball at Tennessee, will be making his first trip back as a member of the Cardinals in a regular season game. He expects to have more than 30 friends and family members there to watch.

– It’s pretty apparent that everyone in the locker room understands what’s at stake over the team’s final three games.

Stat of the Day

Karlos Dansby already has 16 passes defensed this season. Prior to this year, his career high was nine — which he tallied last season with the Miami Dolphins.

Quote of the Day

“Last year we were a little more comfortable at this time because the records weren’t as good,” left tackle Bradley Sowell said of participating in a playoff push this year after reaching the postseason with the Colts last year. “But I’ve been fortunate. I’ve been on two really good football teams that have both deserved to be in the playoffs. Hopefully I can keep it going wherever I’m at.”

This Day in Arizona Cardinals History

On Dec. 13, 1994, the Cardinals improved to 7-7 on the season by beating the Philadelphia Eagles 20-17 in overtime.

It was a huge win for the Cardinals that kept their playoff hopes alive, and it was a close game pretty much throughout.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 10-0 first quarter lead by way of a 28-yard field goal from Chris Jacke and a 70-yard pick-six from safety Tommy Bennett, but saw their cushion evaporate by halftime because of a TD run by Duce Staley and a Chris Boniol field goal, both of which happened in the second quarter.

The Eagles then went on to take a 17-10 lead when Koy Detmer connected with Irving Fryar for a 26-yard score in the fourth quarter, but Jake Plummer hit Rob Moore from nine yards out to tie things up and send the game into overtime.

And it was in OT where Jacke converted a 32-yard attempt, propelling the Cardinals to victory.

For the game, Cards RB Adrian Murrell gained 174 yards on 32 carries, and Plummer completed 18-of-26 passes for 234 yards with one touchdown and one interception. His favorite target was Moore, who hauled in 7 passes for 109 yards and a score.

For the Eagles, Staley rushed for 141 yards and a score on 30 carries, while Detmer completed 16-of-28 passes for 219 yards with one TD and one INT.
