The Arizona Board of Regents approved the school’s construction budget for the stadium in August 2014, Sun Devil Athletics said.
The reinvention of Sun Devil Stadium will feature the “Double Inferno” upgraded student section, enhanced seating and legroom, more restrooms and concession options, technological upgrades, improved air and traffic flow through the venue, a connection to the surrounding landscape, additional premium seating options, and a new video board and sound system, among other new amenities. The design allows for Sun Devil Stadium to be multifunctional, community facility that will host a variety of events year round.
The first phase of the construction involves new student sections in the north and south end zones, which would make the venue unlike any stadium in the Pac-12. The upper deck of the northeast end zone will also be demolished during the first phase, which has an anticipated August 2015 completion date.
The entire project, which includes two additional phases, is expected to be finished in time for the 2017 football season.
