Chaparral’s Davonte’ Neal transfers from Notre Dame

Former Chaparral High School wide receiver Davonte’ Neal has officially decided to transfer from Notre Dame and move closer to home.

The sophomore wide receiver’s decision came about after the birth of his first child with his long-time girlfriend back in February.

Neal’s father, Luke, confirmed his transfer with 247Sports.com’s website BlueandGold.com, stating he has informed coach Brian Kelly and will be moving home this week.

According to his father, Neal was planning on having his girlfriend and new daughter to move out to South Bend, but instead decided it would be better to move closer to both of their families in Arizona.

Now, the bigger question is where will the former four-star wideout decide to go.

When Neal was recruited two years ago, the top-four schools on his list were Notre Dame, Arizona, Arkansas and North Carolina.

But according to Neal’s father, none of those schools are under consideration by Neal and the family. His father said California schools are a better fit for Neal due to Luke’s local ties within the state.

As a freshman, Neal caught only one pass for negative-five yards. Neal primarily served on special teams, returning 21 punts for 46 yards.
