The biggest free agency signing for the Suns this year wasn’t even their own signing of Jared Dudley. No, the best signing for the Suns happened in Chitown, where the Chicago Bulls lured Dwyane Wade away from the Miami Heat.

You see, as a Suns fan, you want the Heat to start trending downward. To start losing. To suck.

Thanks to Goran Dragic forcing his way out of town in 2015, the Suns picked up some draft picks that at the time seemed like a lifetime away. But a couple of years later and now with a Wade-less team, the light at the end of the tunnel can be seen.

In a move that looks genius now, Suns general manager Ryan McDonough moved Dragic to the Heat for two future first-round picks. The first in 2018 is protected top 7 but unprotected after that. The second is in 2021 and is unprotected.

There is only one more draft before the 2018 pick and four more drafts before the 2021 pick. If Miami struggles post-Wade, it’s possible the Suns parlayed a disgruntled point guard into two lottery picks. Worst-case, they got two first-round assets to use for players or trade bait.

Wade isn’t close to the player he used to be, but you have to believe he could have kept Miami relevant for a few more years had he stayed in South Beach. But with him now gone, it should benefit the Phoenix Suns.
