We’re into the second week of our first-ever Arizona Sports Uniform Playoffs!

The field of potential Arizona sports fashion contenders has been whittled down to 24 after two days of second-round voting.

There were upsets, but none bigger than the tournament’s final seed, the Phoenix Coyotes’ green desert-themed alternates, squeaking out a narrow victory over the D-backs’ current Sedona Red alternates. Over 830 votes were cast in that showdown, and the Coyotes’ greens won by a minuscule margin.

This week, we’ll get a look at the top 16 seeds in our field, which include many of the Phoenix Suns’ earlier uniforms.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week, you’ll have four matchups to vote on each day.

Happy voting!

#2 Suns Barkley-era home whites vs. #31 D-backs original home whites

The Suns rocked “the Purple Palace” in these home white uniforms from 1992 until 2000 — and they did a lot of winning in them, too, making the playoffs in all nine seasons they were worn.

The D-backs’ first-ever home uniforms not only looked good on the field, but they scored an easy first-round win over the Cardinals’ throwback jerseys, getting 89 percent of the vote.

#15 D-backs purple alternates vs. #18 Suns Civic Pride black alternates

The D-backs became the first MLB team to sport purple jerseys in a game (the Rockies didn’t introduce theirs until 2000) when they wore these popular alternates.

The Suns’ Civic Pride black alternates were introduced in 2015. They scored a first-round victory over the Suns’ sleeved orange alternates, getting 69 percent of the vote.

#10 Suns original home whites vs. #23 D-backs sleeved ‘A’ home whites

The Suns became the first big-league sports franchise in town in 1968, and introduced a purple-and-orange color scheme as a tribute to the colors of an Arizona sunset. The most popular version of these uniforms, which were worn until 1992, featured the famous Western font, which was introduced in 1973. Before that, the Suns’ jerseys featured a much smoother font.

The D-backs went to a classic “logo on the left breast” look in 2001, the year they won their first and only World Championship. These jerseys earned a 61-39 first-round victory over the Coyotes current home red uniforms.

#7 D-backs sleeveless ‘A’ home white alternates vs. #26 Coyotes kachina home whites

The sleeveless look was very popular in the late 90s and early 2000s, and the D-backs clinched their one and only World Series title wearing these. In fact, even though the purple and turquoise color scheme has been retired by the team, the Diamondbacks still wear these on Throwback Thursdays at Chase Field.

The Coyotes’ original kachina home white uniforms beat the Suns’ current orange alternates 56-44 in the first round last week.
