Making way for outfielder David Peralta’s expected return from his rehab assignment, the Arizona Diamondbacks optioned Mike Freeman to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Freeman, a 28-year-old outfielder, made his MLB debut July 17 and has appeared in eight games with the D-backs. He failed to record a hit in nine at-bats but reached on two walks. He struck out five times.

Arizona closed a series against the Milwaukee Brewers with a 6-4 loss on Thursday afternoon and will travel to play the Los Dodgers on Friday at 7:10 p.m. Manager Chip Hale said he expected Peralta to meet the Diamondbacks in Los Angeles in his return from a back injury.

In nine rehab starts with Triple-A Reno and Double-A Mobile, Peralta is 9-of-29 (.310) with five doubles.

The Diamondbacks will also send ace Zack Greinke to the mound Friday in an Arizona rookie league game at Mesa’s Sloan Park. The starting pitcher is expected to throw 60 pitches after tossing 40 in a bullpen session five days ago.
