Zack Greinke reinstated, Welington Castillo on paternity leave list

As expected, the Arizona Diamondbacks will have their ace when they open a three-game series with the New York Mets on Tuesday.

The team reinstated Zack Greinke after a month on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain, placed catcher Welington Castillo on the paternity leave list and recalled Oscar Hernandez in his place.

The team had already optioned Evan Marshall to Triple-A Reno following Sunday’s game.

Greinke is 10-3 with a 3.62 ERA in 17 starts. He last took the mound on June 28 and left after two innings with the strain. In six June starts Greinke gave up seven runs and had an ERA of 1.63, by far his best month with the club.

Greinke pitched in two rehab starts, one with the Rookie Ball team and the other with the Reno Aces. He went 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA. He gave up five runs in eight innings and had 10 strikeouts.

Castillo left the team to be with his wife Kissalry for the birth of their second child. He will miss a maximum of three days.

The catcher called up in his place, Hernandez, has hit .255 with 10 home runs and 31 RBI in splitting time with Single-A Visalia and Double-A Mobile this year. He appeared in 18 games with the Diamondbacks in 2015.
