Believe in what you want. That’s what we, um, believe.
We also believe there’s faulty logic in Los Angeles Rams defensive end Will Hayes’ beliefs.
First, a quote from Rams coach Jeff Fisher from Tuesday night’s episode of “Hard Knocks.”
“Will Hayes absolutely believes and is totally convinced that there are mermaids and they do exist,” the coach said in NFL’s teaser of the episode. “As a matter of fact, I remember him getting really excited about the potential for moving out here (to Los Angeles) because he knew that he would be closer to mermaids here on the West Coast.”
Skip to a candid shot of Hayes with his teammates.
“Dinosaurs never really existed,” Hayes says. “They ever existed, coach. Coach, that’s not true. I don’t believe in dinosaurs.”
“I just can’t fathom a T-Rex walking around out here, something that man ain’t never seen. All this fairytale stuff, something that I’m not going to teach my kids about. That’s it, man.”
Will, my guy, if we’re going by your stated measures of how to judge things being real or not, mermaids tick neither of the boxes.
Man ain’t never seen a mermaid. To play devil’s advocate, Christopher Columbus apparently saw mermaids, but they were probably just big ol’ manatees. Plus, that dude also didn’t know where the heck he was sailing. We can’t trust him. As for the dinosaurs, we’ve seen fossils of them. Fossils are (almost literally) concrete evidence they once existed.
Secondly, if we’re going by Hayes’ “fairytale stuff” comment, how in the world are mermaids not fairytales? Dinosaurs are a little outside the fairytale spectrum, in our humble opinions.
Just Google it. Oh. Mermaids are definitely real.
Sorry, Will, you were totally right.
Anyway, here is the teaser for the episode of “Hard Knocks.”
