Sun Devils picked 9th in Pac-12

Scribes who cover the Pac-12 have tabbed the Arizona State
Sun Devils to finish 9th in the conference in a preseason
poll released Friday morning from Pac-12 Media Day in Los
Angeles.
Head coach Herb Sendek’s squad returns eight players and
seven letter winners from last year’s 12-19 team that
finished last in the conference.
Among the returnees is wing player Trent Lockett. The
junior from Minneapolis led the Sun Devils in scoring last
season, averaging 13.4 points per game.
UCLA was picked to finish first by the media, receiving 14
of a possible 38 first-place votes. Cal is predicted to
finish second, and received 13 first place votes. Arizona
was named first on eleven ballots and was picked to finish
third in the poll.
The results of the poll may bode well for UCLA. Fourteen
times in the previous 22 seasons, the team tabbed by
conference media (or coaches) has won at least a share of
the Pac-10 championship.
Washington, Oregon, Stanford, USC and Oregon State were
also picked to finish ahead of the Devils in spots 4
through 8. Colorado and Washington State were tied for
10th in the poll, and Utah finished last in the balloting.
The Sun Devils tip-off their campaign November 11th vs.
Montana State in Tempe, but will play an exhibition game
at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix on Saturday,
November 5th.
