ASU shocks U of A to end regular season

TEMPE — All season long, ASU head coach Herb Sendek has
harped
following losses about two things: free throw shooting and taking
care of the basketball.

The harping paid off and Sunday, the light bulb went on for his Sun
Devils.

Arizona State turned the ball over just 10 times (just two in the
second half) and knocked down 22 of 24 free throws in an 87-80
win over in-state rival Arizona in front of 7,864 fans at Wells Fargo
Arena.

ASU point guard Chris Colvin fouled Kyle Fogg on a 3-point attempt
with 1:44 left and Arizona’s senior guard knocked down all three
free throws to cut the ASU lead to 1.

But ASU answered. Sendek called a timeout with 1:21 left in the
game and drew up a play for freshman Jonathan Gilling, who
knocked down a three-pointer with :57 to go to stretch the ASU
lead to 81-77.
