Bruce Arians made it clear a week of shared practices between the Cardinals and the Chargers meant the two were working as a single team.
Deone Bucannon apparently flipped that switch off as soon as the teams began their Week 2 preseason game Friday.
The Arizona hybrid safety-linebacker, on the first San Diego possession, showed no regard for human life when he lowered the boom on poor Chargers wideout Dontrelle Inman coming across the middle. Bucannon knocked the receiver’s helmet off his head in what appeared to be a legal, very hard hit.
It looked like Inman was already bobbling the pass from Kellen Clemens before Bucannon made sure the ball popped loose.
We don’t blame Inman.
The receiver was taken to the locker room and reportedly did not have a concussion after the play.
There are a number of ways the NFL is attempting to make the game safer — and we’re all for it — but we’re not sure how to go about things like this play unless they make Deone Bucannon illegal.
