Diamondbacks’ Nick Ahmed to have surgery on hip, season over

The Arizona Diamondbacks confirmed before the team’s game against the San Diego Padres that shortstop Nick Ahmed will undergo surgery next week in Vail, Colorado.
In a press release, the Diamondbacks said that Ahmed will undergo hip arthroscopy surgery for his right hip impingement, and the procedure will be performed by Dr. Marc Philippon.
The news was first reported by Diamondbacks’ beat writer for MLB.com Steve Gilbert earlier on Saturday and that the surgery will effectively end Ahmed’s season.

D-backs manager Chip Hale told Burns and Gambo on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM on August 16 that he was unsure if Ahmed would return this season.
Arizona placed the shortstop on the disabled list on July 23 for a right hip impingement. The 26-year-old appeared in 90 games this season with a batting average of .218 and 20 RBI.
Chris Owings will most likely finish the season as the starting shortstop.
