A.J. Pollock on track to rejoin D-backs this week as rehab assignment ends

Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock’s rehab assignment stretch will come to a close on Wednesday, and MLB.com’s Jake Rill reports that Chip Hale confirmed on Monday that the All-Star is on track to rejoin the MLB club when it does.

If he returns to the majors on Wednesday or Thursday, he would be able to play in front of Arizona’s home crowd for the third or fourth games in a series against the Atlanta Braves that began Monday.

Pollock’s complex elbow surgery in early April cost him the season to this point, and his recovery, which was predicted to take a minimum of three months, has impressed Hale. Aside from an oblique tweak that kept Pollock out of the lineup this past week, he has not had any setbacks, as he wrote in a guest piece for ESPN.

There were only a couple spots that still showed the fracture line. Ten weeks in, we had another scan, and it was exponentially improved. By week 12, you couldn’t see any lines from the fracture; it was rock solid. The whole thing was normal. It was incredible.

In 10 games between the rookie league, Single-A Visalia and Triple-A Reno during his rehab stint, Pollock is slashing .433/.541/.733 with three doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, seven walks and just one strikeout. Additionally, he has two stolen bases.
