After an ugly first half, the Arizona State Sun Devils bounced back in the second, shooting 71 percent from the floor in a 67-48 win over Washington State in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Tournament at Key Arena in Seattle.

The ninth-ranked and second-seeded Sun Devils shot just 27 percent from the floor and committed 11 turnovers in the game’s first 20 minutes and held a 19-16 lead at the break.

But whatever head coach Charli Turner Thorne told her team at halftime resonated. ASU opened the second frame on a 25-11 run.

Sophomore forward Sophie Brunner scored 12 of her team-high 14 points in the second half. Sophomore Quinn Dornstauder chipped with in with 12 points and six rebounds and senior guard Promise Amukamara had 11 for the Sun Devils, who pushed their season record to 27-4.

Washington State’s Tia Presley had 16 points to lead the Cougars, while Lia Galdeira had 12, but shot just 4-of-17 from the floor.

WSU (17-14) connected on just 1-of-14 three-point attempts and shot 46 percent from the free throw line. The Cougars shot 76 percent from the stripe for the season.

The Sun Devils move on to Saturday’s semifinal against the winner of the UCLA-Stanford contest.
