Newest Cardinal Heap: ‘I’ve got a lot to prove’

Aug 2, 2011, 9:07 PM | Updated: 10:54 pm

When Todd Heap was released by the Baltimore Ravens, the 31-year-old created a short list of teams he’d like to play for.

“From day one once I got released my wife and I talked, and we had a short list,” Heap told Sports 620 KTAR’s Dave Burns and John Gambadoro. “The Cardinals were at the top of that list.”

That’s a good thing, too, as Heap will surely help the Cardinals. Heap caught 40 passes and scored five touchdowns last season, and for his career has 467 receptions and 41 scores. Numbers like that would place him among the very best tight ends to ever suit up for the Cardinals.

In fact, it would make him the best to ever play the position in Arizona.

And yet, he almost never made it to the Valley.
