Kurt Warner’s not sold on top rookie QBs

Kurt Warner knows a thing or two about playing quarterback in the NFL.

Kurt Warner knows a thing or two about playing quarterback in the NFL for Ken Whisenhunt.

Talking to Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf Thursday, the former Pro-Bowler said the transition to a new offense would be a drawn out process for any QB, let alone a rookie signal caller. With that, he said he’s not necessarily sold on the quarterbacks generally rated as the top two in the upcoming draft.

“I know some people that are pretty high on Blaine Gabbert, think that he’s got the skills to be a franchise quarterback,” Warner said. “You know when I was kind of looking around, some of the young quarterbacks and the guys coming out I question whether any of them really had everything it took to be the guy that you could build your franchise around for a long time. But I’ve heard a lot of people talking about Gabbert and saying he could be one of those guys moving on into his NFL career. ”

If Warner seemed hesitant to praise the Missouri quarterback, he was downright reluctant to do so with Auburn QB Cam Newton, only saying the Heisman Trophy winner is a physical specimen.

“Cam…is a guy that can throw the ball, but watching him play a little bit this year, he was a guy that he would look at that number one guy and if that guy wasn’t there he would tuck it and run,” he said.
