Delay in CBA ratification could hurt Cardinals

Aug 4, 2011, 2:18 AM | Updated: 3:24 am

PHOENIX – With the whirlwind of free agency and trades the past few days, most have started to forget that the NFL is coming out of a lockout.

Not so fast.

The Pittsburgh Steelers players rep Ryan Clark was quoted in a tweet by Ed Bouchette that he “doubts the CBA will be ratified in time for those vets not practicing to join teams Thursday.”

Most had figured that this was just a formality including Cardinals rep Jay Feely.

“We’ve been shooting for tomorrow all along. As of yesterday I was told that it was still going to be tomorrow – hopefully, but we haven’t gotten anything definitive yet,” said Feely.

For many teams in the NFL, if this deal drags out for a couple more days or even a week, it might not be that big of a deal, but it could severely hinder the Arizona Cardinals.

New quarterback Kevin Kolb is one of the players that is unable to practice with his team until the deal is officially ratified.

Every missed practice that Kolb has to sit out will make things more difficult for him to get familiar with his new teammates and the offensive system.
