Arizona second baseman Jean Segura made the most of what was officially the shortest game in Diamondbacks history.

Before a rain-shortened, 3-0 Arizona win against the Washington Nationals that ended after an out into the sixth frame on Wednesday night, Segura had already gone 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored.

The hit total was the significant thing.

Shelby Miller’s five scoreless innings helped Arizona to the victory as well and closed his season on the positive note. But with just four games remaining, it’s Segura, in his first year in Arizona after being traded from the Brewers, who can only add to his historic year at the plate.

Here’s Segura’s year, so far, after reaching the 200-hit barrier on the season.

2

Segura joins Luis Gonzalez as the second player to surpass the 200-hit mark. He hit singles in the first inning, third inning and fourth inning to reach 200. Gonzalez has reached the mark twice, in 1999 and 2001.

3

The Diamondbacks’ second baseman is the third NL player since 2006 to reach the 200-hit mark after being traded. Dee Gordon (traded from the Dodgers to the Marlins) reached 205 hits last year, while Juan Pierre (traded from the Marlins to the Cubs) recorded 204 hits in 2006.

7

With just seven more hits, Segura could surpass Gonzalez’s club record of 206 hits in a season. That was set in 1999.

14

After Wednesday night, Segura became the 14th player in MLB history to notch 200 or more hits, 20 or more home runs and 30 or more stolen bases. The other players on the list are impressive names: Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Lou Brock, Bobby Bonds, Ellis Burks, Larry Walker, Craig Biggio, Alex Rodriguez, Vladimir Guerrero, Alfonso Soriano, Hanley Ramirez, Jimmy Rollin and Jacoby Ellsbury.

24

Segura has tallied three or more hits in 24 games this season, a D-backs record.

29

Out of 30 games against the NL East, Segura has notched a hit in 29 of those contests.
