The Oregon Ducks’ tradition of making fashion statement will continue this weekend, as the school released the uniform it will wear on Saturday against the No. 5 Washington Huskies.
The new uniform is meant to honor the Webfoots, as it is written on the chest of the uniform.
The term Webfoots derives back when Oregon didn’t have a mascot, before they were the Ducks. The moniker was a term that was first used to describe Massachusetts fishermen, who were descendants of people living in Williamette Valley, Ore. It was later used to describe Oregonians in general, and then became the unofficial name of the Oregon football team.
It is specifically honoring the 100-year anniversary of the 1916 team that went undefeated and won the Rose Bowl.
The uniforms are navy blue with yellow writing and stripes on the sleeves. The helmet is all black with the Oregon flag on the sides.
Oregon sits at 2-3 (0-2 in the Pac-12), after dropping last weekend’s game to Washington State 51-33.
