Two weeks after he was fired by the Arizona Diamondbacks, former manager Chip Hale has landed on his feet by agreeing to join the Oakland Athletics as a third base coach.

The team announced the addition Tuesday.

In Oakland, Hale once again wlil coach under fellow former Arizona manager Bob Melvin, who brought Hale onto his D-backs staff in 2007 following Hale’s tenure as manager of the now-defunct Tucson Sidewinders.

Hale later coached with Melvin’s Oakland staff from 2012-14 before he took the Diamondbacks’ managerial job.

“We’re thrilled to bring Chip back to the organization and to retain the rest of our coaching staff,” A’s general manager David Forst said in a release. “Bob and his staff have done an outstanding job with our core group of young players, and keeping them together was an important step for us as we look towards 2017. Under Bob’s leadership, we’re confident that we have the right staff in place to continue our club’s growth and development.”

Hale replaces former third base coach Ron Washington, who left Oakland to coach for the Atlanta Braves.

The D-backs decided to part ways with Hale on Oct. 3 after an abysmal 69-93 season that produced the sixth-worst record in baseball.

Hale was 148-176 in two full seasons as manager for the D-backs.
