With options dwindling, Cards still looking to add receiver

It’s no secret — and if it were it’d be the worst kept one ever — the Arizona Cardinals would like to add another wide receiver after losing Steve Breaston to the Kansas City Chiefs. While they may have missed out on Braylon Edwards and Malcom Floyd, there are still a few quality receivers available.

With names like former Jet Jerricho Cotchery and former Giant Steve Smith still on the market the Cardinals may be able to find a No. 2 receiver to line up next to Larry Fitzgerald. Just don’t expect it to happen too soon.

“We are taking interest there as we are in a number of other spots,” general manager Rod Graves told Doug and Wolf Friday. “We’re continually looking for opportunities to improve our football team and when those opportunities arise hopefully we’ll get lucky as we have this last week and be able to take advantage of them.”

They failed to get lucky with Edwards and Floyd and, though another wide receiver would be nice, it now looks like re-signing theirthe top receiver on their roster, Larry Fitzgerald, is the most important thing to Graves and his staff.

“It’s our No. 1 priority right now. As we have a number of priorities right now,” he said. “I also have to point out we have a number of other players I’d like to extend during the course of the season if the opportunities present themselves.”

The desire to sign Fitzgerald or another receiver before the regular season starts is there. Whether it will actually happen remains a mystery.
