Cam Newton rips NFL after hit low by Cardinals’ Calais Campbell

Oct 30, 2016, 3:11 PM

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton said “enough is enough.” He’s tired of being treated differently than other quarterbacks.

And he wants to speak with the NFL Commish about it.

Newton didn’t appreciate a non-call in his team’s 30-20 win against the Arizona Cardinals when defensive end Calais Campbell hit him below the knees while the quarterback stood in the pocket.

“It’s really taking the fun out of the game for me,” Newton said in his postgame interview. “Honestly, it really is. At times I don’t even feel safe. And enough is enough. I plan on talking to commissioner (Roger) Goodell about this. It’s not fun.

“He could have torn my ACL,” the quarterback added. “That’s the breaking point.”

Campbell, who appeared to fall into Newton’s leg after he lost balance, apologized to Newton after the play.

“Look, it’s legal to hit a quarterback in the knee area and below as long as it’s not forcible and it’s a swipe with the arm, and the referee that has to make that decision,” said FOX Sports rules analyst Mike Pereira. “But in this case to me, it was the shoulder to the knee area and that would make it forcible, and in this case, I clearly do think it was a foul.”

Here’s Newton’s full comment when asked postgame about the low hit.
