GLENDALE, Ariz. — Wednesday’s practice was the first since Darnell Dockett was lost for the season. The players have had time to digest that news, so for the most part things seemed pretty normal.

Of Note

– Newcomers Isaac Sopoaga and Ryan McBean were on the field practicing. Sopoaga even got some work with the Cardinals’ first team.

– John Abraham was on the field working with the team for the first time since arriving last Thursday. He participated in both individual and team drills.

– Jay Feely was perfect on field goal attempts Wednesday, while Chandler Catanzaro missed three.

– Jonathan Cooper was once again unable to practice. He was joined by Max Starks and Kevin Minter on the sideline.

– Patrick Peterson came up limping during the session but appeared to be OK.

– Andre Ellington got open for a long play on a wheel route by beating linebacker JoJo Dickson.

– Carson Palmer hit Jaron Brown for a nice TD pass in 11-on-11 work. Drew Stanton also connected with Dan Buckner for a long score.

– Matt Shaughnessy corralled an interception off a ball that was tipped at the line. Later in practice, safety Deone Bucannon picked off a Stanton pass while Jerraud Powers also tallied an interception.

Stat of the Day

Tyrann Mathieu was one of just three rookies last season with at least two interceptions, a sack and a forced fumble. The other two are Buffalo’s Kiko Alonso and New England’s Logan Ryan.

Quotes of the Day

“That’s an unbelievable record. He’s never been hurt before in his entire career. That’s an amazing feat. It just shows how hard he trains and keeps himself in top, physical condition all the time. It was unfortunate, one of those non-contact deals. You just put your foot in the ground and it’s all over.” -Bruce Arians on Dockett having only missed two games to injury in his 10-year career

“When the head coach comments and brings your name up in anything and it’s positive, of course you’ll be happy. I just want to make sure that I put my 100 percent effort in and come out there and show what I’ve got.” -Defensive lineman Ed Stinson on coach Bruce Arians praising his performance

“Not at all, not at all. I was in good shape before I got to camp, so I’ll be OK.” -Linebacker John Abraham on it taking a while before he’s ready to go

“I don’t really change that much, I do what I do. I do my job… I like to make the stands go crazy, I like to make the crowd go right. I’m not a screaming and yelling type guy, but if I talk, you better listen. So I’m kind of like that. I’m not a hoo-rah type of guy. I make a play, you’re going to know.” -Abraham on stepping into a leadership role in Dockett’s absence
