The Arizona Cardinals already have their next star wide receiver, according to a writer at SI.com.

Third-year NFL receiver Michael Floyd was named to Sports Illustrated‘s All-Breakout Team after racking up 1,041 receiving yards on 65 catches last season.

SI.com’s Chris Burke noted that Floyd’s gaudy numbers outdid the 954 receiving yards of teammate and eight-time Pro Bowler Larry Fitzgerald, despite seeing 22 fewer targets from quarterback Carson Palmer.

“Should Palmer’s attention shift even further to Floyd as the 31-year-old Fitzgerald enters a contract season, Floyd will cruise past his 2014 numbers. Pro Bowl and All-Pro nods, plus the designation of being Arizona’s No. 1 receiver, would not follow too far behind.”

Rather than complementing Fitzgerald as a short-yardage slot receiver, Floyd has already proven his ability as a constant downfield threat. The 24-year-old former Notre Dame standout ranked 10th in the NFL with 16 yards per catch in 2013.

As Floyd receives more attention within the Cardinals’ system, he is expected to improve upon his 2013 total of five touchdowns and become more of a redzone target with his large 6-foot-2 frame.

Floyd, who was was drafted 13th overall by the Cardinals in 2012, built upon an up-and-down rookie season in which he accrued 562 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
