Report: Arizona Cardinals negotiating contract with James Harrison

Aug 28, 2014, 6:54 PM | Updated: 7:41 pm

The Arizona Cardinals will have to wait until Friday to finalize a deal with linebacker James Harrison, according to ESPN.com’s Josh Weinfuss.

Harrison has begun his physical with the team and started to negotiate a contract, his agent, Bill Parise said, but with the team in San Diego for Thursday night’s game, there is a holdup in the process. Parise didn’t want to set a timeline for when a deal could possibly get done, but he said the whole process has been moving along smoothly.

Harrison won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2008 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, becoming the only undrafted player to do so. The linebacker had 101 tackles and 16 sacks in 2008, and led the NFL with seven forced fumbles.

The 36-year-old played 2013 with the Cincinatti Bengals. Harrison finished the season with 30 tackles and two sacks, his worst outputs since 2006. The team released him in March.

Harrison is a five-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion with 66 career sacks and 29 forced fumbles.
