Think you’ll see Cam Newton Week 1 versus the Cardinals? Think again

We know the Carolina Panthers are coming to University of Phoenix Stadium in Week 1 to take on the Arizona Cardinals. What we don’t know is who will lineup under center for them.
While most people assumed Cardinals fans would get a chance to see No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton start his first NFL game, it sounds like they will only see the Auburn star play if something goes horribly wrong.
According to ESPN NFL insider John Clayton, last season’s starter Jimmy Clausen is in line to start.
“At this stage the Panthers want to try to win and they probably have a better chance to win with Jimmy Clausen even though they only won two games last year,” Clayton told Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf. “Derek [Anderson] is just there as insurance. What I see happening is they would have Derek as the backup quarterback because he has NFL experience, he’s been to the Pro Bowl and he has a great arm. Also they think they want to go with the quarterback that worked with that unit last year.”
