Rookie wide receiver Walt Powell survived Saturday’s league-mandated deadline, but unfortunately the sixth-round pick out of Murray State did not make it through the weekend.
The Arizona Cardinals announced Sunday that they released the St. Louis, Mo. native after being awarded a waiver claim on outside linebacker Thomas Keiser.
Powell caught six passes for 106 yards during the preseason, including a 45-yard reception against the Houston Texans.
Keiser, an undrafted free agent out of Stanford back in 2011, has two interceptions and nine sacks to his name in parts of three seasons with the Carolina Panthers and San Diego Chargers.
He also forced one of Logan Thomas’ two fumbles in Thursday night’s 12-9 victory over the Cardinals.
In addition to adding Keiser, the Cardinals signed six players to their practice squad: Anthony Steen, Andre Hardy, Brittan Golden, Jimmy Legree, Jonathan Brown and Kelvin Palmer.
