The Arizona Coyotes lost Brad Richardson to a lower body injury midway through the second period of their 3-2 overtime loss Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks.

The forward was stretchered off the ice and taken to a local hospital with what the team called a lower body injury.

“We’ll get a full report tomorrow but we’re looking at a pretty significant injury,” Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett told the media in Vancouver after the game.

Richardson turned into an oncoming Nikita Tryamkin 11:23 into the second period and collapsed upon contact. He remained on the ice and called over Arizona’s trainers during an injury timeout before leaving on a stretcher with his right leg elevated.

Richardson had scored the first goal for Arizona on the evening, ending a six-game streak without a point and scoring his first since Nov. 1 against the San Jose Sharks. The 31-year-old has four goals and four assists on the season.

Arizona led 2-0 when Richardson left the game but gave up two goals over the next seven minutes to find themselves tied heading to the third period.

The Coyotes fell in overtime when the Canucks’ Ben Hutton scored on a penalty shot that got past Arizona goalie Louis Domingue.
