If a halfway decent wide receiver becomes available it’s likely the Arizona Cardinals will be connected to him by some rumor or source. It’s just a byproduct of losing your No. 2 receiver in the whirlwind that has been NFL free agency and not finding a proven replacement.
The latest receiver’s name to be associated with the Cardinals is the Bills’ Lee Evans. The rumors seem to be nothing more than people connecting the dots. Buffalo has an overabundance of solid wide outs and Arizona is in need of one.
While those rumors are fun for fans and media, they aren’t the only ones who hears about them. Evans caught wind of the latest round of rumors and talked to the media about it in upstate New York on Wednesday.
“I don’t really know,” the receiver told reporters. “Obviously that is something that is out of my control. There are always rumors like that out there so we will have to just see what happens.
“It’s hard for me to comment on it now. It’s just one of those things that you have to find out how much substance is behind it and see what happens. So I can’t really comment on it.”
Although Evans wasn’t willing to talk about any rumors involving the Cardinals directly, he would talk about one of the guys who would be his teammate if they are true.
“Well I know Larry [Fitzgerald] and I’ve known him for a long time so we have a really good relationship,” he said. “Anything outside of that you just have to see how much is really behind it.”
Like the rest of us, Evans doesn’t really know if he is in the Cardinals plans or not, but in this truncated NFL offseason anything seems feasible. Including not adding a No. 2 receiver at all.
