It looks like the Arizona Cardinals would like to keep Carson Palmer around for a while.

The quarterback is set to reach a contract crossroads after this season, though according to AZCentral Sports’ Kent Somers, the team has opened negotiations with his agent in hopes of reaching an agreement before the end of the season.

“I won’t get into specific points of the negotiations but we’ve had some dialogue with Dave Dunn,” General Manager Steve Keim said. “He (Palmer) has done a great job for us.”

Palmer, who was acquired by the Cardinals in exchange for a late-round draft pick, has been a steady presence for the Cardinals at quarterback. Though he struggled early last season as he was learning Bruce Arians’ offense, he surged in the second half of the campaign to finish with 4,274 yards passing to along with 24 touchdowns while guiding the team to a 10-6 record.

In two games this season, the 34-year-old has completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 554 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. He missed three games due to a nerve injury in his right shoulder, but appears to be past that.

Now in his 11th NFL season, Palmer has thrown for 34,293 yards with 217 touchdowns and 152 interceptions.
