Greg Byrne narrows Arizona coaching list down to…100?

Oct 19, 2011, 5:40 PM | Updated: 6:51 pm

If Arizona AD Greg Byrne has been clear about one thing
with regards to his search for the team’s next football
coach, it’s that he won’t divulge any information before
he has to.

Essentially, we won’t find out who his choices are until
THE choice is made.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be speculation, though, and
college sportswriter Jon Wilner
says
there is a list of 100 candidates for Byrne to
choose from.

He tweeted:

Arizona AD Greg Byrne has a list of 100 names for his
search. Wonder if Kevin Sumlin is on it … in case Cats
don’t get 1st choice (CP).

Thanks for narrowing it down, Mr. Wilner.

The truth is Byrne would not be doing his job if he didn’t
have more than one guy in mind, and while Chris Petersen
may be his top choice it would be prudent to have a backup
plan or two in place.

However, chances are good Byrne will not talk to 100
different candidates before making a final decision, and
will only start moving down his list if his top choices
turn down the job.
