Red helmets ‘not on radar’ for U of A football

Jun 4, 2012, 1:40 PM | Updated: 4:59 pm

Two weeks ago, the University of Arizona athletic department
made it known that they were adding a third helmet to the
Wildcats’ football wardrobe.

The new copper-colored alternate joins Arizona’s more
traditional blue and white helmets, and will be worn some
time during the 2012 season.

Sunday, another photo of another alternate helmet — this
one red — made the rounds on Twitter and got the Wildcats
fan base thinking that the ‘Cats would wear the red lids
this season as well.

Not so fast, says AD Greg Byrne. According to
Anthony
Gimino of The Tucson Citizen
, Byrne debunked the red
helmet
rumor, saying they were simply a mock-up.
