It wasn’t ideal.
The Phoenix Suns trailed the Houston Rockets by 20 points late Wednesday night, and head coach Earl Watson emptied the bench with 2:30 remaining. He kept starting guard Devin Booker in the game to run with a young group of three rookies and fellow second-year pro Alan Williams.
Booker not only padded his stats on an evening where Phoenix frustratingly got in a shooting match against their former head coach Mike D’Antoni’s high-octane offense.
Booker got out some of the pent-up struggles with a hammered dunk on Rockets forward Kyle Wiltjer.
If anything, it was a way for Booker to relieve some stress on an evening he scored 28 points on 11-of-25 shooting to go with seven assists.
Houston shot 53.5 percent overall, 47.4 percent from three and recorded 30 assists on the night with only 11 turnovers. It scored at least 30 points in every quarter and finished with an offensive rating of 130.9 points per 100 possessions for the game.
