Arizona Cardinals confidently move forward with Drew Stanton at quarterback

Tempe, Ariz. — The Arizona Cardinals won two games while Drew Stanton was their quarterback earlier in the year.
They’re about to find out if they can win even more.
With Carson Palmer on the shelf for the season with a torn ACL, Stanton, the backup who had not thrown a regular season pass since 2010 before this season, will be the starter. He is not a placeholder, like he was earlier in the season.
This is his job.
“I think it’s a little bit different, the mindset, because, unfortunately, of the circumstances, it’s a little bit different this time around,” Stanton said of his approach to his ascension to the starting job. “As far as my preparation, that doesn’t change.”
In four appearances this season — including three starts — Stanton has completed 49.5 percent of his passes for 614 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. But more than that, he inspired confidence that he can get the job done if called upon.
“Everybody in the locker room, including myself, has all the confidence in Drew,” Cardinals coach Bruce Arians told the media Monday. “You all should too by now.”
