Nebraska to honor wildfire victims with ‘Mountain Tough’ helmet stickers

When the Nebraska Cornhuskers visit Nashville for the Music City Bowl on Friday, their helmets will feature a “Mountain Tough” sticker decal.
If it confuses that the school surrounded by rolling cornfields would sport such a phrase on their uniforms, just know it’s not about the Huskers themselves.
The decals instead honor the victims of the Gatlinburg, Tenn., fire that on Nov. 28 was responsible for 14 deaths, 180 injuries and more than 2,400 damaged or destroyed structures, according to reports.

The Gatlinburg fire forced 14,000 people to evacuate. It began on Nov. 23 and on Nov. 28 was not considered a threat to the town, which is 5.5 miles away. But hurricane-force winds blew embers and caused the fire to threaten several communities.
In the bowl game, Nebraska will face the Tennessee Volunteers at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
