University of Arizona men’s basketball player Lamont Jones was named Pac-10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Wildcats to victories over UCLA and USC in Tucson this past weekend.
Through the week’s two games, the sophomore guard averaged 17.0 points on 12-of-17 (.706) field goal shooting, 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. He also averaged 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists as he extended his streak of scoring in double figures to four consecutive games.
Jones scored 17 points on 6-of-11 field goal shooting, while recording three assists and a career-high three steals in Arizona’s 85-74 win over the Bruins. In the team’s 82-73 win over the Trojans he finished with 17 points, three rebounds and two assists, making all six attempts from the floor, including two from three-point range.
Jones’ Pac-10 Player of the Week recognition is the first of his career and the 79th weekly honor for Arizona all-time. This is also Arizona’s first honor of the season for any player not named Derrick Williams, who has received two so far.
This week, the Wildcats travel to the Bay Area to face Stanford on Thursday and California on Saturday.
