PHOENIX – With the announcement that coach Gary Williams would be retiring from Maryland, rumors have circulated around University of Arizona’s Sean Miller possibly becoming his replacement.
Former Wildcat and TNT NBA analyst Steve Kerr isn’t buying it.
“I don’t think he’s going anywhere,” said Kerr on the Sports 620 KTAR’s Gambo and Ash show on Friday.
With Miller having a top five recruiting class coming in next season and a chance to improve on last season’s Elite Eight appearance, Kerr doesn’t see the logic in Miller bolting Tucson for Maryland.
“Sean Miller’s got it right back to where it was under Lute (Olsen) and to walk away now would be kind of strange. I don’t see it happening,” said Kerr.
The former Suns general manager believes the rumors surrounding Miller are just that, rumors.
“He was mentioned for all the NC St. rumors a few weeks ago. It’s kind of normal for names to just fly around,” said Kerr.
Still, money talks and it’s possible Miller could be lured to Maryland if they make an offer too good to pass up.
“You never know in college basketball where coaches are perfectly allowed to break their contracts,” said Kerr.
