ASU coach Hurley takes shot at rival Arizona in postgame speech to team

Jan 6, 2017, 10:33 AM | Updated: 3:00 pm

To say Bobby Hurley was fired up following Arizona State’s 78-77 win over Colorado Thursday night would be an understatement.

In speaking to his team after the game, the second-year coach remained calm while explaining how while the victory was nice, it was important to be prepared for the team’s next game, which is Saturday against Utah.

“Be professional, be mature, be smart — make sure you get your rest tonight and we’ll take care of bodies tomorrow that need to be taken care of so that we’re at our best on Saturday,” Hurley said.

At that point, there is really nothing to see here. Then, the coach continued.

“Because if anyone wants to win here, they better go to [expletive] Tucson,” he added, to applause from his players.

As far as shots at a rival go, this one is more on the mild side. Hurley was trying to reaffirm the idea of a homecourt advantage at Wells Fargo Arena, getting his team behind the idea that if an opponent wants a win in the state of Arizona, it will not happen in Tempe.

That said, wins are tough to come by for opponents in Tucson, too, where the Wildcats have won 63 of their last 64 games.

The Sun Devils, who are 9-7 overall and 2-1 in the Pac-12, will themselves travel to Tucson next Thursday for a tilt with the No. 17 Wildcats, who are 14-2 and 3-0 in the conference.
