Which Beanie Wells will show up for the Cardinals?

Aug 19, 2011, 7:59 PM | Updated: 9:51 pm

As a fan of the Cards you may be wondering why Beanie Wells is still the team’s starting running back.

Wells only rushed for 397 yards and two touchdowns last season, and didn’t look great in his 2011 preseason debut, either.

“If you watched Beanie Wells against Oakland you probably asked why haven’t we traded this guy,” Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug Franz said. “He’s had multiple opportunities, his pass blocking is abysmal, what a waste of a first round pick.”

But that may not be the “real” Beanie Wells, as training camp has seen a “dramatically different” back.

“He is running so much harder in training camp,” Franz said. “He is running people over and it’s great to see the way Beanie Wells is playing football.”

Then again, looking back to the Cardinals first preseason game against the Oakland Raiders, Wells rushed 6 times for 22 yards, most of which came on one long 15 yard run.

“He’s got a track history of playing like that,” Franz said. “Being careful making sure he didn’t get hurt, going back to the old Beanie.”

For his career the running back has a total of 1,190 yards and nine touchdowns. Not awful, but not stellar numbers worthy of a first round draft pick back in 2009.

So the question remains, which Beanie Wells will show up this season?

“Is what I’m seeing a mirage or is Wells really going to be worth the first round pick everyone thought he could be,” Franz said.
