Arizona picked to finish third in the Pac-12

Oct 28, 2011, 8:13 PM | Updated: 10:05 pm

The Arizona Wildcats, winners of the Pac-10 last season,
have been picked to finish third this season in the Pac-12
in a poll of media members who cover the conference.

The Wildcats pulled in 11 first place votes, but the loss
of Derrick Williams, Momo Jones and Jamelle Horne was
enough to vault UCLA and California to the top.

Given Arizona’s exhibition loss to Seattle Pacific
Thursday night, you’ll have a difficult time finding any
Wildcats fan who thinks the team should be ranked higher.

That said, Arizona will be relying on four freshman to
play significant minutes this year, meaning this team
could struggle early but be rather formidable by the time
the Pac-12 Tournament rolls around. As for now, there
appears to be cautious optimism, and it’s worth noting
that the media has correctly picked the conference’s
winner 12 times in 19 tries.
