Reno Aces, other teams join the roast of the Chargers with a ‘new logo’

Jan 12, 2017, 2:39 PM | Updated: Jan 13, 2017, 11:34 am

Anyone who spent more than five minutes on the internet Thursday probably saw a lot of jokes regarding the Los Angeles Chargers’ new logo.

Not only is the logo, which was unveiled Thursday morning, pretty basic, it also bears a striking resemblance to the logo of the (soon to be neighboring) Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fans and teams alike have been making jokes about the new logo, including the Arizona Diamondbacks minor-league affiliate, the Reno Aces.

Apparently they did.

The Aces are one of many teams at all levels to poke fun at the Chargers.

Among the other teams to mention the new icon is the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning, another pro team with a logo that shares a lot of traits to the one put forward by Dean Spanos’ club.

The flak against the Chargers new logo dominated the internet, to the point that the team may have pulled back its use. Liz Habib of Fox Los Angeles tweeted that the Chargers said the logo is not permanent and will not appear on helmets or jerseys.

Whether that was the plan all along or just crowd sourcing gone horribly, horribly wrong, Twitter had a lot of fun, from pro to college teams.

At a time when even minor league baseball teams are trolling NFL teams relentlessly, the Chargers probably regret letting this out without giving it more thought.
