ESPN announced teams that will participate in the Armed Forces Classic — a college basketball doubleheader held on Veterans Day 2016 at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii — and the Arizona Wildcats got an invitation.
The Wildcats will play Michigan State and Indiana will take on Kansas in the other game.
“It’s a special honor for our program to take part in the Armed Forces Classic at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in 2016,” UA coach Sean Miller said in a statement. “The Armed Forces Classic is a first-class event that pays tribute to the brave men and women of the United States military. We’re excited for the opportunity to honor them as representatives of the University of Arizona.”
Miller’s 2014-15 squad opens its season Friday night in Tucson against Mount St. Mary’s at McKale Center.
This year’s Armed Forces Classic features Rick Pitino’s Louisville Cardinals taking on Richard Pitino’s Minnesota Golden Gophers (yes, they’re father and son) at U.S.C.G. Air Station Borinquen in Puerto Rico Friday.
